Writing Advice from George Saunders

Alkek Library, Texas State University, where the Q&A session took place

Back in grad school, I was privileged to attend a workshop and a Q&A session with writer George Saunders. There are a couple of things he said that stuck with me:

  1. Abandon all hope of accuracy. It's okay if a valley girl character isn't like a girl of modern times or of the seventies or any time. People will not care.
  2. Writing Exercise Idea: Write in the voice of your mother or father. It's what Mr. Saunders believes anyone can do.
