Week Five in Review, Belated Post: Upcoming Art Fairs, Beaded Rings Are New Territory, and Photograph Printing Expenses
January 26th to February 1st, 2014
This is a belated week-in-review post, which I was supposed to publish before Feb. 9th and forgot to do so. Whoops. I'm not doing a great job sticking to my new year's resolutions. Now, I'm going to try to play catch up.
I have an announcement. I'm going to be attending several art fairs and other events this year. I'll be sharing a booth with fellow artist Dawn Darbonne, who specializes in quilts, handbags, table runners and other bags. I'll be selling jewelry and photographs. We'll be making appearances at various events in Acadiana. You can find out more information about Upcoming Events at my web site, and I'll make announcements here on the blog. The next event will be at the Shadows-at-the-Teche in New Iberia, Louisiana, on March 8th. I'm looking forward to it. Over a hundred vendors, all selling various artwork and crafts, will be attending, and our booths will be set up on the grounds of an old sugar cane plantation house that has been preserved as a museum. It's a gorgeous location on the banks of Bayou Teche. It'll be fun to see the other artists' work.
During Week Five, I began preparations for my first fair of the year, 2nd Saturday Artwalk in Downtown Lafayette, Louisiana on Feb. 8th. I had to recalculate all the expenses involved in having a group of photographs printed plus matboard costs plus time to cut the matboard plus the cost of cello sleeves. I've sold photos at fairs before, but not for a few years, so costs of materials and the sources of those materials have changed. I decided to print 34 images of landmarks around Acadiana, as well as a few photographs taken in Texas. Some of them have not been posted on DeviantArt yet, but a handful of them have. Most of them are 5x7 prints in 8x10 matting, and a few will be 8x10 prints in 11x14 matting. If customers are interested in duplicates or larger sizes, then they can place custom orders. If I sell a few photos, I can print more and offer the same prints and more at the next venue.
During week five, my beadwork turned in a new direction with the creation of a few rings. I photographed the first ring for a photo journal. I've also started making bracelets, which is another new venture for me. It's been going well so far, but now I need to find a reliable supplier who can give me thin rings in varying finger sizes.
I also failed to do an art review post, again. during week five. I've found that I've been racing to get both an art review and a photo journal blog posted at the end of each week, and I don't have time to do both each time. I need to figure out some other system.
