Week Three in Review: No Art Review Last Week; New Photos on DeviantArt

January 12th through 18th, 2014

Well, this week, I did a lot of art that I didn't mention on the blog. I did some drawings, and I did some painting, and I did some beadwork, which I actually did mention in a Photo Journal post. I created a blue and silver necklace pendant with sodalite--which I bought a month ago--and a central bead that I've had lying around in my bead collection for years, just waiting for the right moment to be used. I have a habit of buying beads before I know what I'm going to do with them, which means I have thousands of beads lying around. I love it!

I also completely failed to post an art review. I am annoyed at myself for this. Fortunately, I have a plan. As punishment, I have started working this week on a massive multi-review post. The punishment lies in the fact that, instead of doing one review last week and one review this week, I will be doing several extra reviews this week. Yeah! That'll teach me!

I also resumed posting more photos to my DeviantArt account. I'm an amateur photographer, but I do enjoy exploring the medium. I actually re-started posting photos last month and forgot to mention it here. So, now I'll recap (the list below also includes the photos I've posted this week. I'm just going to mention them here for completeness):

"On the Mountainside" is a shot I snapped on a train traveling through the Swiss countryside. I've posted it partly because of what's hidden in the fog on top: the ground has been dug up and replaced in tiers of steppes, probably to prevent avalanches from falling down the mountain and burying the train tracks.

I already used "Bridge to the City" in a three-piece photo collage, but I thought it was worth posting by itself. I'm not too happy with the composition, and the water perhaps takes up too much space on the bottom. The interesting stuff is all smushed together in the center-ground and in the background.

Elsewhere in the same location, I took the photos that comprised this collage I've titled "Old and New". I like this one because of the clashing styles of the castle wall, which rises into sight behind more modern buildings.

I've got a few photos of the Alamo, including "In Remembrance - 6". I love taking photographs of buildings at odd or extreme angles; I just wish my camera could take better night shots. This is one of the better photos I've managed to take with my uncomplicated, 12 megapixel digital camera.

I also posted some digital art. I spent weeks last year designing a pastel steampunk gear alphabet, and I posted a sample of the completed 26 letters. I made the gears separately in 2012, and each gear took many hours. The letters themselves took anywhere between 2 and 7 hours, depending on the design. I love how these came out.

I also posted a second step-by-step look at my process while creating a digital fanart painting called "Not to Be." I wanted to post it, so I did.
