Title: Among the Darkness and Ash
Word Count: 100

Behind him was darkness and ash. Behind him, the city was gone, dissolved, destroyed. He’d done it. He’d ground them all down into the dirt and ash where they belonged, or so he believed.

They’d called him a villain, a plague and a curse. He had been all these things.

Before him was the broken wall. The world beyond was light and airy and vast. It was an invitation. He yearned to enter it and leave the wasteland behind. He longed to move, to laugh, to dash into the light.

But he couldn’t take a step. He didn’t deserve paradise.
