Incomplete Story Snippet: It was down to them. It usually was. Gina’s and Oré’s eyes locked and held. The floor rumbled its displeasure. The walls quivered in fear and shock. In seconds, the ship's circuitry and emotion circuits would fall to pieces and scatter through Earth’s atmosphere below. The important sounds -- shouts for reports, the squeak of boots against metal floors, screams and cries of the wounded -- all of these were absent. The crew had evacuated. Only Gina and Oré remained. It was the way it should be, with the twins surrounded by silence. Neither sibling looked at the bomb on the floor between them. Neither had forgotten its presence. If it was armed, the shipwreck would take out the entire continent, not just the park and library that the wreck would hit directly. “Walk away,” said Oré. “My client wants these people alive.” Gina’s head tilted. “My client doesn’t.” Oré’s hands clenched into tight fists. They were unarmed. They preferred it that way.

Title: Among the Darkness and Ash Word Count: 100 Behind him was darkness and ash. Behind him, the city was gone, dissolved, destroyed. He’d done it. He’d ground them all down into the dirt and ash where they belonged, or so he believed. They’d called him a villain, a plague and a curse. He had been all these things. Before him was the broken wall. The world beyond was light and airy and vast. It was an invitation. He yearned to enter it and leave the wasteland behind. He longed to move, to laugh, to dash into the light. But he couldn’t take a step. He didn’t deserve paradise.

Title: The Cloud Shaper Word Count: 109 He gathered the dandelions into a bouquet, sucked in a deep breath and let loose. The dandelion seeds swirled into a cloud around his face, He swirled his hands, shaping them, and blew again. He closed his eyes, and when he opened them, the air was clear, but the sky overhead held the clouds he’d fashioned. Cloud-Shapers hadn’t existed for centuries, not since they’d been hunted down, putting an end to the devastating Weather War. No one had seen a cloud in longer than that. Irrigation and planes kept the land saturated. But now the clouds came back, and the people marveled as rain fell.
